Revenue For Retirement

Older people often assume that they are not entitled to financial help from the government, however, there are many options that, if you're eligible, will mean that instead of struggling, or just getting by, you can enjoy your retirement years. Make sure you're getting the money you are entitled to.

So what might you be missing out on?

Attendance Allowance

Attendance Allowance helps with extra costs if you have a disability or health condition severe enough that you need someone to help look after you.

You could get £72.65 or £108.55 a week to help with personal support if both of the following apply;

  • you have a physical disability, a mental disability, or a health condition

  • you’re state pension age or older

Pension Credit

Pension Credit gives you extra money to help with your living costs if you’re over State Pension age and on a low income. Pension Credit can also help with housing costs such as ground rent or service charges.

When you apply for Pension Credit your income is calculated. If you have a partner, your income is calculated together.

Pension Credit tops up;

  • your weekly income to £218.15 if you’re single

  • your joint weekly income to £332.95 if you have a partner

If your income is higher, you might still be eligible for Pension Credit if you have a disability, you care for someone, you have savings, or you have housing costs.

Carers Allowance

You could get £81.90 a week if you care for someone at least 35 hours a week and they get certain benefits.

You do not have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for.

PIP

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) can help with extra living costs if you have both:

  • a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability

  • difficulty doing certain everyday tasks or getting around because of your condition

You can get PIP even if you’re working, have savings, or are getting most other benefits.

In addition to the above support there are many other available benefits, such as council tax reduction, housing benefit, local grants and even potential discounts on your TV licence. For a complete overview on all government assistance visit GOV.UK
