The Sturminster Diners Club takes place on the third Thursday of each month, starting on the 22nd October 2015. It is held at the Stour View Day Centre, Bath Road, Sturminster Newton, DT10 1DR.
Diners are provided with a two course, home cooked meal with tea and coffee for a reasonable charge.
Both the diners and the volunteers benefit from attending the diners club as it gives them the opportunity for a friendly chat, a chance to make new friendships, and the opportunity to leave the home environment.
The diners club is an extremely important service for older people because as well as providing a chance for social interaction, it also gives the charity an opportunity to promote its other activities and to share other relevant information.
Country Car Scheme
We have been providing this vital service for older people for over 17 years. The service provides approx. 300 journeys per year. We provide transport for:
- Appointments with the doctor, dentist, chiropodist, chiropractor, osteopath etc.
- Hospital appointments or to visit friends and relatives both in hospital or care homes.
- Visits to banks, chemists, hairdresser, post offices etc.
- To meet trains and buses and much more.
Despite recently losing local authority funding, we are continuing to run this service to ensure we alleviate rural isolation caused by a lack of public transport.
Donations of 50 pence per mile are suggested for each journey.
If you would like to book a journey, please telephone Wendy on 01258 473439.
